The Kariboard Mark II
Extending the principle of the Kariboard, mounting of sound modules with a portable keyboard, a DVD audio sound source instrument can be constructed. As shown in the picture two Yamaha QY70's are connected to a QY100 through a novel midi arrangement allowing all three sound modules to play at the same time under master control from the keyboard*. In this instrument MIDI synchronisation of 6 sound sources can be derived allowing real time generation of music with a large range of performance attributes. Choices of sound field spatial effects can range from a simple 6 channel separation of individual instruments to complex moving wave patterns and melody dynamics across the channels. Traditional surround sound effects are possible using programming of the QY module delay functions during the performance. This instrument goes one step further than surround sound because the audience can actually see the performer construct the sound fields on the keyboard and associated sound module controls. The Kariboard Mark 2 allows the possibility of the real time generation of DVD audio with unique sound field effects never seen before in the Music Industry.
